Physical Therapy is another type of rehabilitative services which preserves, enhances or restores movement or physical function. They are health care professionals with extensive clinical experience and education. In fact, Physical Therapists now graduate with Doctoral degrees. Both Physical Therapists (PT) and Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA) are required to pass State licensing examinations and maintain their license through clinical practice and continuing education.
Your Physical Therapist will examine you and develop a plan of care related to your diagnosis using a variety of treatment techniques to help you move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. They can also help prevent loss of mobility and motion by developing a fitness and wellness-oriented program tailored to your specific needs. At A Step Ahead Therapy, our Physical Therapists use evidence-based (proven by science) techniques and treatments to improve the body's ability to move and function in daily life. With their ingenuity and experience, they will show you how to get 'A Step Ahead'.

A manual technique where the patient actively contracts a muscle in a specific position against pressure from the Physical Therapist. It is often used to reposition a dysfunctional joint and to treat the affected musculature.
Uses high-acceleration with low distance forces in the cervical, thoracic and lower back. It is basically a mobilization with a gentle thrust and because it is not performed at the end of the patient's range of motion it is considered to be safer than an adjustment.
Are exercises that develop the muscles to better support and efficiently move all of the joints in the body, including the spine. This limits the chances of injury or dysfunctions and pain. At A Step Ahead we utilize Pilates since all of the exercises can be modified and adjusted for every type of person.
Works well for people who have nerve pain in the arms and/or the legs. They are simple movements provided by the Physical Therapist, or by the patient themselves, to gently move the nerves, calming down the tissues and relieving pain.
Basically, if you have pain then you have a movement disorder! So by taking simple movements, like rolling over, and working on proper sequencing you can address areas of your muscles/core that may not be working adequately to protect you from injury.
